Sandra Seru

Sustainability, social impact, and cross-sector leadership executive Sandra Seru has been named Executive Director of Building Impact, a nonprofit organization that connects companies and their employees with meaningful community engagement and volunteer opportunities to strengthen local communities and advance social impact.

Seru brings more than 25 years of experience leading mission-driven organizations at the intersection of business, sustainability, and social impact. Most recently, she served as an Independent Advisor and Coalition Builder, leading initiatives that mobilize businesses, nonprofits, and community leaders to advance inclusive economic growth, civic resilience, and community partnerships. In this role, she advised executive leaders on impact strategy, partnership development, coalition building, advocacy, and organizational growth while serving on nonprofit and community boards.

Previously, Seru was Managing Director of Forum for the Future Americas, a nonprofit dedicated to accelerating the transition to a just and sustainable future. During her tenure, she led a strategic and financial transformation that nearly tripled the organization’s regional budget, secured significant corporate and foundation funding, and oversaw a multidisciplinary team across the Americas. She also developed and led innovative partnerships that brought together corporations, nonprofits, investors, policymakers, and community stakeholders to address challenges related to climate justice, food systems, and economic inclusion.

Earlier in her career, Seru served as Director of Strategy and Operations for The B Team, where she led global programs focused on climate policy, human rights, and corporate transparency, and held leadership positions with Diageo, overseeing sustainability strategy and reporting across 180 markets worldwide. She began her career at Business for Social Responsibility (BSR), leading initiatives involving stakeholder engagement, sustainability strategy, and community-centered development throughout the United States and Latin America.

In addition to her executive leadership experience, Seru is a lecturer in the Bard Graduate Program in Sustainability, where she teaches strategy and systems thinking. She is an active writer and speaker on sustainability, equity, and systems change and serves on nonprofit and community boards focused on collaborative social impact and civic engagement.
