Nile Blunt, Ph.D.

Executive Director, Cahoon Museum of American Art· Cotuit, MA

Museum education and cultural leadership professional Dr. Nile K. Blunt has been selected as Executive Director of the Cahoon Museum of American Art, a Cape Cod museum dedicated to collecting, preserving, and interpreting American art while fostering meaningful community engagement through exhibitions and educational programming.

Dr. Blunt brings more than a decade of experience in museum leadership, audience engagement, arts education, and strategic planning. He joins the Cahoon Museum from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, where he served as Senior Director of Museum Learning. In this role, he led the strategic vision for the museum’s Learning Department, oversaw programs for K–12 students, educators, families, teens, and adult learners. He directed a cross-functional team of 16 staff members, manages an annual budget of approximately $2.8 million, develops partnerships with schools and community organizations, and advances initiatives focused on accessibility, inclusion, and community-centered engagement.

Previously, Dr. Blunt served as McPherson Director for Academic Programs and Head of Interpretation at the Memorial Art Gallery in Rochester, New York. There, he led multidisciplinary education and engagement teams, strengthened community partnerships, secured more than $400,000 in grant funding in a single fiscal year, and expanded arts integration programs serving students, educators, families, and lifelong learners. Earlier, he was Head of School Programs at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, where he directed educational initiatives reaching more than 45,000 K–12 students annually and built partnerships with schools across multiple states.

In addition to his museum leadership experience, Dr. Blunt has served as Assistant Professor of Curatorial Practice at the University of Rochester and remains active in numerous professional organizations, including the American Alliance of Museums, the National Art Education Association, and the New England Museum Association. He also serves as a mentor through POLARIS: The Museum Mentor Network and has contributed to arts and cultural initiatives at the local, regional, and national levels.

The Cahoon Museum of American Art celebrates American art, history, and culture through dynamic exhibitions, educational programs, and community partnerships, serving residents and visitors on Cape Cod and beyond.
