Experienced leader Mitzi Baum has been selected as Chief Executive Officer of Nourishing Hope, a Chicago-based nonprofit organization dedicated to nourishing hope through food, mental health services, and social supports so that all neighbors can thrive. Mitzi Baum brings nearly three decades of experience in the fields of nonprofit leadership, food systems resilience, public health advocacy, food safety, and community impact strategy.
Mitzi Baum comes to Nourishing Hope from Stop Foodborne Illness, a nonprofit focused on protecting public health through food safety advocacy and education. During her tenure as Chief Executive Officer, she instituted a collaborative, consumer-centric operating model, engaged stakeholders across the food system, and advanced initiatives to strengthen food safety and capacity building in the nonprofit sector.
Previously, she cultivated a 23-year career at Feeding America, one of the nation’s largest hunger-relief networks, where she rose to senior leadership in food safety and logistics. In that role she contributed to advancing strategic food system solutions and operational practices that supported food banks and partners nationwide.
Mitzi is also recognized as a national expert in food safety, serving as an adjunct faculty member for Michigan State University’s online food safety program, a certified instructor, and a lecturer for professional associations. Her professional affiliations and contributions reflect a deep commitment to education, safety, and community well-being.
Nourishing Hope is one of Chicago’s largest and longest-operating support organizations addressing hunger and related needs through food distribution, mental wellness, and social services. With a mission of nourishing hope through food, mental health, and social supports, the organization provides millions of meals annually and partners with community members and volunteers to create a city where all residents have the resources needed for a dignified life.
