President & CEO National Immigrant Justice Center · Chicago, Illinois
Immigration law and nonprofit leadership professional Keren Zwick has been selected as President & CEO of the National Immigrant Justice Center (NIJC), a leading national advocacy organization dedicated to advancing and protecting the rights of immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers through legal representation, policy advocacy, and impact litigation.
Zwick brings more than two decades of experience in immigration law, federal litigation, nonprofit leadership, and public-interest advocacy. She has spent the past 15 years with NIJC, most recently serving as Director of Litigation. During her tenure, she grew the organization’s federal litigation team from four to 20 professionals and significantly expanded NIJC’s capacity to challenge anti-immigrant policies in federal courts nationwide.
She has led litigation involving access to asylum, immigration detention, warrantless arrests, and due process protections, while building strategic partnerships with pro bono attorneys, nonprofit organizations, and community advocates. In 2025, she launched the Illinois Habeas Project, which resulted in more than 70 habeas petitions and the release of numerous individuals from immigration custody.
Previously, Zwick held several leadership roles at NIJC, including Associate Director of Litigation, Managing Attorney, and Supervising Attorney. She also played a key role in expanding NIJC’s LGBTQ Immigrant Rights Initiative, growing the program from fewer than 50 cases in 2011 to representation and support for more than 300 LGBTQ and HIV-positive noncitizens through direct services and pro bono partnerships. Additionally, she oversaw portions of NIJC’s Detention Project, helping secure federal funding for legal orientation services and launching participation in the National Qualified Representative Program.
Beyond her work at NIJC, Zwick has served as an Adjunct Instructor at Loyola University Chicago School of Law since 2010, teaching legal writing and immigration litigation. She also held leadership positions with the Jewish Federation of Southern Illinois, Southeast Missouri, and Western Kentucky, where she participated in strategic planning, governance, fundraising, and organizational development initiatives.
The National Immigrant Justice Center is a nationally recognized nonprofit organization that provides legal services, impact litigation, and policy advocacy on behalf of immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers while promoting human rights and access to justice.
