Justin Kii Huenemann

Experienced leader Justin Kíí Huenemann has been selected as President and Chief Executive Officer of New Mexico Foundation, a statewide community foundation dedicated to stewarding resources, building partnerships, and creating opportunities that transform lives throughout New Mexico. Justin Huenemann brings more than 20 years of experience in the fields of nonprofit leadership, community development, philanthropy, and economic and cultural equity.
Justin Huenemann comes to New Mexico Foundation from First Peoples Fund, an organization focused on supporting Indigenous arts and cultural leadership. During his tenure as President and CEO, he advanced strategic initiatives that strengthened organizational impact and uplifted Native community-driven creative solutions nationwide.
Previously, he was President and CEO of First Peoples Fund, where he guided the foundation’s work supporting Indigenous artists and cultural preservation. Prior to that, he served as President and CEO of the Notah Begay III Foundation, focusing on health and wellness for Native youth, and served the Northwest Area Foundation where he supported economic development across rural, urban and tribal communities in eight states.
Justin’s work has been recognized with notable awards including the Minneapolis Mayor’s Healthy City Award and the Minnesota American Indian Chamber of Commerce Bear Award for his contributions to community health, equity, and cultural development. He holds a bachelor’s degree in architecture and a master’s in educational policy and administration from the University of Minnesota.
New Mexico Foundation has worked for over 40 years to improve quality of life across the state, connecting donors with community-led solutions, fostering collaboration on critical issues, and empowering grassroots change. As the only statewide community foundation in New Mexico, the Foundation stewards philanthropic resources and builds partnerships that uplift rural, underserved, and Native communities while strengthening social and economic resilience throughout the region.
