Joshua Steirman
Executive Director, Maine Municipal Bond Bank · Augusta, Maine
Financial services and public finance leader Joshua Steirman has been selected as Executive Director of the Maine Municipal Bond Bank, an independent state financial institution that helps municipalities, schools, and other public entities access low-cost financing for critical infrastructure and community projects.
Steirman brings more than 15 years of experience in banking, financial regulation, public policy, governance, and risk management. He joins the Bond Bank from the Maine Bankers Association, where he served as Director of Government Relations. In that role, he led advocacy and government affairs initiatives for 34 financial institutions, directed legislative strategy, testified on more than 50 bills before the Maine Legislature, and worked closely with policymakers, regulators, and Maine’s Congressional delegation to advance industry priorities.
Previously, Steirman was Vice President and Senior Credit Officer at Gorham Savings Bank, where he oversaw credit risk monitoring for an $800 million commercial loan portfolio and managed a team responsible for complex financial analysis and loan approval processes. Prior to that, he spent more than six years with the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, rising through positions of increasing responsibility while leading examination teams and evaluating the safety and soundness of financial institutions across New England. Earlier in his career, he served as a Senior Bank Examiner with the Massachusetts Division of Banks.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Steirman is deeply engaged in community leadership. He serves as Board Chair of The Opportunity Alliance, one of Maine’s largest social services organizations, and is a director of JumpStart Maine. He has also held leadership roles with Boots2Roots, the Risk Management Association, and several civic initiatives in Cumberland, Maine. Steirman additionally serves as a Major in the Maine Army National Guard following more than 13 years of service in the U.S. Navy Reserve.
