Philanthropic leader Shawn V. Morehead has been selected as President and Chief Executive Officer of the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation (NHCF), New Hampshire’s statewide community foundation dedicated to making the state a more just, sustainable, and vibrant place where everyone can thrive. Morehead brings more than 20 years of experience in philanthropy, law, education, and nonprofit leadership, including senior executive roles at one of the nation’s largest community foundations.
Morehead comes to NHCF from The New York Community Trust, where she most recently served as Executive Vice President and Chief Program Officer, leading a $60 million annual grant program supported by more than $1.5 billion in endowed funds. In this role, she oversaw grant strategy, managed a team of program directors, evaluated 500 grants annually, and helped raise and distribute more than $70 million through the COVID‑19 Response and Impact Fund.
Previously, Morehead served as Vice President for Grants, where she secured $35 million from the New York State Attorney General to improve reading instruction citywide and led grantmaking that contributed to system‑wide instructional reforms.
Accomplished nonprofit leader Brent Thompson has been selected as Executive Director of Legal Aid of Western Ohio, a leading organization dedicated to providing high-quality civil legal services to low-income individuals and families. Thompson brings nearly two decades of executive leadership and legal experience, with a strong focus on access to justice, equity-driven initiatives, and community-centered service delivery.
Thompson most recently serves as Executive Director of Grants & Sponsored Programs at Minnesota State University Moorhead, where he oversees a diverse portfolio of federal, state, and foundation-funded initiatives. In this role, he has strengthened internal controls, improved grant reporting infrastructure, and supported large-scale grant development and compliance efforts. His work has enhanced institutional capacity and ensured responsible stewardship of public and private funding while advancing mission-aligned outcomes.
Previously, Thompson served as Executive Director of Legal Aid Service of Broward County, where he led a team of more than 130 staff and managed a budget exceeding $15 million. During his tenure, he secured significant funding increases, including a $4 million gain in grant support, and implemented data-driven evaluation strategies to enhance program effectiveness. He also modernized organizational operations, strengthened community partnerships, and reduced staff turnover from 48 percent to under 10 percent within one year, reflecting his commitment to organizational sustainability and team development.
Earlier in his career, Thompson served as Executive Director of East River Legal Services, where he led transformational growth, expanding service capacity and increasing clients served by 300 percent. He successfully advocated for the first-ever state funding for legal aid in South Dakota, launched innovative technology solutions to improve access to services, and established the state’s first medical-legal partnership. His earlier experience as a staff attorney and consultant further reflects his dedication to improving legal systems and advancing equitable access to justice.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Thompson is a collaborative leader who has worked extensively with policymakers, community organizations, and stakeholders to advance systemic reform and equitable outcomes. His leadership reflects a deep commitment to strengthening legal access for underserved populations and building resilient, community-focused institutions.
