The Gettysburg Foundation is a nonprofit philanthropic and educational organization that operates in partnership with the National Park Service to preserve Gettysburg National Military Park and Eisenhower National Historic Site and educate the public about their significance. Together with the National Park Service, the Foundation preserves and protects nationally significant historic resources while sharing the enduring stories and lessons of conflict, courage, leadership, citizenship, and remembrance. The Foundation owns and operates the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum & Visitor Center and several historic sites and educational experiences that engage visitors from around the world. Supported by more than 10,000 Friends of Gettysburg members, approximately 120 staff, 95 volunteers, and assets of roughly $100 million, the Foundation plays a vital role in preserving and interpreting one of the nation’s most important historic landscapes.
The Gettysburg Foundation seeks a dynamic and visionary President & CEO to lead the organization into its next chapter of growth and impact. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the President & CEO will provide strategic, operational, philanthropic, and organizational leadership for a nationally significant institution dedicated to historic preservation, public education, visitor engagement, and mission-driven business operations. The successful candidate will work closely with the National Park Service, Board members, donors, staff, volunteers, and community partners to advance the Foundation’s mission, strengthen and diversify revenue streams, expand philanthropic support, elevate Gettysburg’s national relevance, and ensure the long-term sustainability of the organization. The President & CEO will serve as the Foundation’s chief ambassador, fostering strong partnerships, championing innovative educational and visitor experiences, and preparing the organization for future growth, including an anticipated capital campaign.
The ideal candidate will be an accomplished and collaborative executive with significant senior leadership experience and a demonstrated record of organizational and philanthropic success. They will bring strong fundraising expertise, financial acumen, strategic vision, and the ability to lead a complex mission-driven organization while balancing preservation, education, visitor engagement, and business priorities. The successful candidate will be an exceptional communicator and relationship builder who can cultivate trust with donors, government agencies, National Park Service leadership, Board members, community stakeholders, staff, and volunteers. Experience leading comprehensive fundraising initiatives, major gift development efforts, or capital campaigns is highly desirable. Leadership experience may come from cultural, historical, educational, philanthropic, conservation, visitor-serving, or similarly complex organizations. A bachelor’s degree and substantial executive leadership experience are required, and a graduate degree is preferred. Current or previous President and/or CEO experience is highly valued.
