President & Chief Executive Officer, Lutheran Family and Children’s Services of Missouri
Posted 10/29/2026 · St. Louis, MO, United States
Lutheran Family and Children’s Services of Missouri (LFCS) is a not-for-profit social services organization serving the State of Missouri. The organization has been in existence since 1868, when it was founded as a residence for children left homeless after the Civil War. LFCS has made progressive program changes over its 158-year history in order to meet the shifting needs of children and families in Missouri. What has remained constant is its commitment to strengthening children and families and helping them build better futures. LFCS seeks an accomplished, relational, and outward-facing leader who is energized by the opportunity to build upon the strengths of a respected organization with a long history of service and to guide it confidently into its next chapter to serve as its next President & CEO.
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the President & CEO will provide strategic and organizational leadership for LFCS at an especially important point in its history. Working in partnership with the Board and a strong senior leadership team, the President & CEO will guide continued growth, ensure that strategy translates into action, and position LFCS to expand its impact while maintaining the quality and sustainability of its work. The President & CEO will foster an environment in which employees feel valued, recognized, and connected to LFCS’s mission, strengthening a culture in which talented people can continue to grow and contribute.
Successful candidates will bring significant leadership experience, preferably within nonprofit or human services environments, together with an understanding of the complexity of leading an organization with multiple programs, locations, funding sources, and public-sector relationships. Experience working with government agencies and funders, governing boards, donors, and community partners would be particularly valuable, as would experience guiding an organization through significant growth or change while maintaining the trust and engagement of longstanding stakeholders. Lutheran affiliation is not required, but the successful candidate should appreciate LFCS’s Lutheran heritage, understand its importance to many longstanding supporters, and be prepared to preserve the values that have defined LFCS even as its reach and identity continue to evolve.
LFCS offers a competitive salary and benefits package. The anticipated starting salary for this position is $215,000 or above, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
