Grayslake, IL — After a 20-year career in nonprofit health, human services and academia, Dr. Venoncia M. Baté-Ambrus has been selected as Executive Director of the Healthcare Foundation of Northern Lake County. She began working as a community health worker before becoming a community health psychologist and pastoral counselor specializing in diversity, equity, inclusion and justice, spirituality, and integrated care. Promoting health equity and access to care in hospitals, clinics, hospice and palliative care, and behavioral healthcare settings is her life’s work.

Dr. Baté-Ambrus has been appointed and/or elected to multiple boards, advisories and committees, including sections of the American Public Health Association and the American Psychological Association. She is a Truth, Racial Healing, and Transformation practitioner, in addition to being a public speaker and educator on cultural humility and the social determinants of health.

The Healthcare Foundation of Northern Lake County is committed to improving the health status of uninsured and underserved residents in northern Lake County through improving access to comprehensive and integrated care. This takes place through investing in programs that target marginalized individuals and families and underserved neighborhoods and communities.

Throughout its history, the Foundation has built the capacity of nonprofit organizations and the health system/continuum of care, reduced unnecessary treatments, hospitalizations and emergency visits, and decreased healthcare costs to consumers and the community.
