Samir Bitar: Museum Director
Columbus, OH – Samir Bitar, the former Director of Visitor Experience for the Smithsonian, has been named Museum Director of the National Veterans Memorial and Museum (NVMM) in Columbus, OH. Bitar will run the day-to-day operations of the memorial and museum, scheduled to open in Fall 2018.
Bitar comes to the NVMM with more than 10 years of museum management experience. While at the Smithsonian, he developed strategies and operations that improved access and engagement for more than 20 million visitors annually in 19 museums. Previously, Bitar was Executive Director of SENS Production, a Brooklyn-based experimental arts organization that produces performance and film work exploring the dynamics of movement in public spaces.
Bitar is also a veteran who served in the U.S. Army.
He received a B.A. in Humanities from the New College of California and a M.A. in Arts Management from Carnegie Mellon University.
