Description

Planned Parenthood of Indiana and Kentucky (PPINK)

Indianapolis, IN

President & CEO

The institution that is today's Planned Parenthood began in the early 1900s with Margaret Sanger, a public-health nurse who advocated for birth control and led the movement to abolish laws prohibiting dissemination of information about sexuality, contraception and human reproduction. This spirit and commitment to seeking equality and justice persists as Planned Parenthood of IN and KY brings more than 80 years of history providing reproductive health care and information to residents of Indiana and the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

Prior to the creation of PPINK, Planned Parenthood’s health centers in IN and KY were organized in nine different regions. In 2004, a merger created one statewide Planned Parenthood affiliate for IN, and in 2008, KY’s two affiliates merged to become one. Those two statewide affiliates merged successfully in 2013 to become Planned Parenthood of IN and KY (PPINK).

PPINK has an annual budget of $16 million and 170 staff members. Our skilled professionals provide confidential reproductive health care for both women and men, as well as comprehensive sexuality education in 17 health care centers in IN and two centers in KY. Sixty percent of total revenues are earned from patient services, 26 percent from grants and contributions, and 12 percent from government contracts. PPINK was proud to serve 55,949 unduplicated patients in 2015 during 137,516 visits.

Since the November 8, 2016 elections, elected officials unfriendly to women’s health rights now control the Presidency and the US Congress. Locally, both IN and KY state governments now have the same difficult political profile. We anticipate new governmental barriers to both equity and individual choice in reproductive health; therefore, both advocacy and coalition work are more essential than ever. Over the next four years, this sharply more difficult political environment will heighten the importance and significance of PPINK’s role in legislative advocacy and public policy. PPINK’s next President & CEO must boldly take on the challenge and opportunity to shape public policy as well as to engage new advocates who will continue the fight for reproductive choice and justice.

Reporting to the board of directors, the President & CEO is a visionary leader who partners with, helps to inspire, and serves as the face of the organization to external partners, advocates, often hostile legislators, donors and the general public. The President & CEO helps to raise resources and develop partnerships in support of the mission. He or she also serves as a significant leader and advocate for preserving women’s rights to reproductive choice and care in the Midwest region. The next President & CEO will manage and administer this $16 million organization and think strategically about how to balance mission and sustainability in order to render the highest quality of professional family planning services and reproductive health care in settings that preserve and protect the privacy and rights of each individual.

PPINK seeks a proven leader with at least ten years’ progressive leadership experience and a passion for the mission of Planned Parenthood. The selected candidate will be a visionary change agent with strong strategic planning experience and skills. Personal qualifications include the interest and ability to build a strong, supportive culture and to both manage and lead within complex organizations. A creative, intuitive thinker with high emotional intelligence, flexible personality, and strong resiliency will serve the organization well. The ideal candidate will exhibit an understanding of the local and national healthcare environment and provide thought leadership as to how PPINK can capitalize on the ongoing changes for the benefit of both the organization’s financial success and the healthcare needs of its patients. Demonstrated fundraising experience is desirable, as is knowledge of the IN/KY political landscape. A bachelor’s degree is required.
